Received 1.30 p.m. t-o-day. LONDON, April 23. Regarding the Women’s Franchise Bill, Sir William Joynson-Hieks in the House of Commons admitted- that if the scale were unaltered candidates’ expenditure might be increase-d by £l5O to £3OO.
Colonel R. Vauglian-Morgan secured the passage, by ISI to 173 votes of an amendment to Mr. Henderson’s- proposal retaining the minimum at fivepence in t-lie- boroughs. Mr. Henderson’s motion proposed a reduction of candidates’ expenses from sevenpence, as at present allowed for each elector in the counties and fivepence in the boroughs, to sixpence and, fourpence respectively, and" this was ultimately accepted. The Bill passed the committee stage.
