IN HONOUR OF STAN. LAY. TO HELP OLYMPIC FUND.' There will be no need to remind the people of Hawera and district of the special effort being made this evening to increase the funds being raised to bear the expenses of sending prospective champions to the Olympic Games, because the first on the list is the local athlete, Stan. Lay, whose prowess in javelin throwing is so well known. ... An executive committee has been working energetically and arrangements are now practically complete Residents of the town and district are invited to join in the carnival and to catch the spirit off helping the fund, which will ensure success. The civie farewell will be .given by his "Worship the Mayor (Mr E. A. Pacey) at ten o’clock, and that of the Maoris will follow at 10.15 p.m. Helping the concert parties will be Messrs E. Silver, of Bltham, Joe Renwick, of Gisborne, and Newdick, of Stratford. The Maoris will give instrumental and vo'cal selections, and the revue party performances during the evening, and over each location the Electric Light Company has erected special lights, so that, the streets will be brightly illuminated. 'They are certain to be thronged with people. There will also be a dance at the Savoy Tea Rooms. There has been no effort spared- to assure success and it is certain the people of the district will rise to the occasion and secure a large and liberal addition to the fund.
