APPOINTMENT OF PRINCIPAL BOARD AND DEPARTMENT AT LOGGERHEADS. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, April If). The Education Department and the Wellington Education. Board -/are at loggerheads over t'he appoinment of the principal to the Training College. The latter, after advertising, chose on the recommendation of the board of advice Mr E. K. Lomas, who had been acting principal for the jiast year and had been vice-principal for many years and was considered the best qualified candidate. The Department declined to endorse the selection and requested the beard to advertise again. The board carried a resolution objecting to the Department’s action, claiming that Mr Lomas was more highly qualified than anv other applicant and expressing the -opinion that his appointment should be confirmed. A further resolution recorded the board’s protest against the policy of appointing overseas applicants to Paeancie's when there are in New Zealand candidates who have been trained in our own colleges (and univcTsitv, and possessing equal or better oualifieations. The board also desired to know what had become of the Rhodes scholars sent from New Zealand.
