RIVERLEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) KITCHEN TEA. A very enjoyable evening was spent in the Riverlea hail on Thursday last, when a kitchen tea to Miss Byrnes was tendered by Mesdames Gargan and j •Josephson. There was a large attend-I ance and the presents were numerous and useful. Just before supper Mr. E. Gibbons, on behalf of the Kaponga Ladies’ Hockey Club, presented Miss Byrnes with an aluminium kettle, and expressed the good wishes of the members of the club for Miss Byrnes’ future happiness. Mr. J. Gibson, on behalf of Miss Symes, suitably responded, and also thanked all present for the other useful presents given, and Mesdames Gargan and Josephson lor so kindly arranging the party. During the evening Mr. Mclsaacs entertained the company with a couple of recitations. The music for the dancing was played by Mrs. Evans, and Mr. Gibbons carried out the duties of M.C. HALL SOCIETY. On Tuesday evening the annual meeting of the Hall Society should have taken place, but, unfortunately, there was not a quorum present and the meeting was adjourned sine die. A meeting of the liall committee was lie Id on the same evening, there -being present Messrs W. E. Hey (presiding), J. A. Symes, J. Gibson, H. Hooper, M. A. Voullaire, K. Rothe, and M. F. Voullaire (secretary). It was resolved that owing to the fact that the tennis club were holding a ball this week, and there was another function next week, the euchre parties should not commence until Tuesday, May 1. The chairman, Mr. W. E. Hey, gave notice to move at the next general meeting of the -society, “That clause (c) of rule- 6 be amended by stinking out the word ten and substituting there.or the word seven.” PERSONAL. Mr. W. H. Franks is at present confined to" his bed owing to injuries received on Sunday morning through the horse he was driving slipping oil the bitumen, resulting in Mr. Franks being thrown out and sustaining injuries to the ribs and shoulder. Mr. W. Milligan, who was with Mr. Franks at the time, was fortunate enough to escape with a severe shaking. Mr. B. L. Webby inay be returning home from the Wanganui hospital shortly. Miss Brooker, who has been assistant teacher at the local school for the past four years, has been appointed to Strat ord, and took over her new duties after Easter. Miss M. L. Rremner, who has- recently been assistant at Mokoia, has been appointed assistant here and commenced her duties also after the Easter holidays.
