Lloyd’s quarterly returns of the tonnage building throughout the world. At the present there arc 1,490,000 tons in motor ships compared with 1 390,000 in steamers building notwithstanding the number of steamers under construction totals 369 while motorships comprise hut 275. Of the total tonnage 2,893,000 tons a-s present being constructed, British yards are building 1,441,000 tons, a reduction of 139,000 as compared with the previous quarter.
