PRODUCTION FIGURES. The figures of the dairy division of the Department of Agriculture show that the salted butter graded for March 1928, were 58417 tons, and the unsalted 143 tons, a 'total <cf 5990 tons, compared with 7195 tons salted and 305 tons unsalted, a total of 7500 tons for .March, 1927; a decrease of 20.1 per cent. For the eight months ended March, 3928, the respective quantities were 6'182!8, tons and 296(9 tons, a total of 64797 tons compared with 59244 •tons and 201,1 tons, u total 'of 61255 tons for the corresponding period of the preceding season, an increase of 5.7 per cent. The cheese graded for March, 1928, comprised: White 4144 tons, coloured 3095 tons, a total of 7239 tons, compared with 6241 tons white and 3012 tons coloured, a total of 9253 tons for March, 1927, a decrease of 2d.7 per cent. The quantities for the eight months ended M'arch, 1925, were: White 40,862 tons, coloured 2d,901 tons a total of 62,763 tons, compared with 42,458 tons white and 21,207 tons ’coloured, a total of 63,605 ’tons for the corresponding period ’of the preceding season, a dcrease of 1.4. Converting these figun's into butterfat equivalent there is an increase of 3.4 per .cent in butt or fat production for the eight months as compared with the corresponding period of the 3926-27 season.

Stocks held in the various grading ports as at March 31, 1925, were: Butter 6244 tons, cheese ,6971 tons, as compared with 13,960 tons butter and 14,397 tons cheese held on March 31. 1927.

Mr. S. Turner has received from Lonsdale.s Ltd., London, the following message, dated April 10: New Zealand butter 16Ss per ewL ; market quiet. New Zealand cheese 97s per r-wt.; market steady.
