PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr G. Westenra, of Canterbury, son of the late l>r. Westenra, formerly of Hawera, was a passenger by this morning’s mail train for the south.
Mr R. McCabe and Mr Troutin, both! of Matamata, are spending a few days in Hawera. They are staying at the White Hart Hotel.
The Mayor of Eltham (Mr. I. JBridger) and Mrs. Bridger returned to Eltham by motor last night, after spending a holiday in the Auckland district.
The death is reported from Wellington of Major Hardham, V.C., aged 51, after a long illness. He obtained his decoration in the Boer War in 1901 for rescuing Trooper McCrae under heavy fire.
Mr. 11. J. Hogg, the popular secretary of the Midhirst Dairy Company, has owing to ill health been obliged to resign his position with the cornpuny.
A London cable message states that Sir Frederick Field has been promoted to the rank of Admiral and takes over the command of the Mediterranean i< leet. Rear-Admiral Hall-Thompson. has been promoted to Vice-Admiral. Captain Gordon Campbell, V.C., has been promoted to Rear-Admiral.
Air. and Airs. H. A. Brunette left by this morning’s mail train en route lor Australia on a long holiday. Last night Air. Brunette was farewelled by his brother bowlers of the Parle Club anti presented with a bowlers’ bag. The heartiest of good wishes were expressed for his future good health and prosperity.
