SALVAGE PARTY.
FOR SOLOMON ISLANDS. SYDNEY, March 27. The steamer Maianbar is to leave Sydney this afternoon for Giza, via Tulagi, to savage silver ore and zinc slabs .valued at £159,000, from the shell of the sunken Norwegian Yairra, which was destroyed by fire in the Solomon Islands some ninths ago.. Members of the syndicate who oon-
tracted with Lloyd’s to recover the ore and zinc, merged their interests yesterday into a company, with a capital, of £IO,OOO, undor the title of the Yairra Salvage, Ltd. The Maianbar has been chartered from the North Coast Steam Navigation Co. for three months, and it i,s claimed by the promoters that she will l , be the most elaborately .appointed, salvage steamer that lias ever left Sydney. The most modern pumps and diving equipment, an oxy-aoetylene cutting plant, gas masks and a contnivnmo for clearing gases from the sunken, hull, arte among the gear already on hoard. . . • , .. The Yaira. lies m about 20ft of waiter forward and 35ft aft, and the recovery of the shipments may be hindered by the discharge of gases from tbs burnt copra lying on top.
