Towards the end of the \eai- the services of Mrs. Drayton, secretary and treasurer, were lost to toe society, owing to her departure oil a trip to England. Mrs. Drayton was connected with the branch since its inception, and did much valuable work in twithering the interests of the society. Special thanks were due to Nurse Grant ior her very satisfactory work during the She had proved exceedingly popular with the mothers. The society desired to thank all those who had given willing help tlnoughout the piast year; special acknowledgment being due to the proprietors of the Central Hotel and the coronation Hotel, who provided the nurse with lunch free of charge; also to Sir Walter Carncross, who never railed to place the aims and objects or the society before the public on all occasions. THE FINANCIAL SIDE, A statement of receipts and expenditure for the \ear ended March 31 showed that in addition to a balance oi £69 lls 8d brought forward, the sum or . £lO2 lßs lOd had been placed to tne society’s credit, against which ex- ( penditure totalied £l2k 13s Gd, leaving a balance to credit of £49 17s. More financial help was required and things made easier ior those ladies who so willingly devoted much time and thought to the successful working of the society. A more unselnsh organisation, he said, did not exist, and it should receive far more support than it did from those who derived most, b-eneht therefrom. He ascribed the lack of support to thoughtlessness, rather than to selfishness. The chairman touched upon the subject of rent, and trusted that it would oe possible to hold the next annual meeting in rooms belonging to the soeity, He had interested himself in this matter, and foresaw no insurmountable difficulties in attaining the desired end. He had also secured lor the society the promise of a half share in the nett returns from a production o: Mozart’s Twelfth Mass at Eltham shortly. With similar offers of monetary assistance and a wide extension of membership there would soon be no necessity to spend £35 per annum in renting a rest room.
