WAVERLEY.
(From Our Own Correspondent..) A GOOD SAVE. Residents' of Waverley were alarmed on Saturday morning during the early hours by the ringing of the fire bell. One of the residents on passing the timber mill noticed flames close to the engine-house and gave the alarm. The local brigade was soon on the scene, and its prompt action certainly saved what- might have been a very serious fire, as had the wind sprung up nothing could possibly have saved the mill, wlTere a large quantitv of timber was stored. The mill is owned by Mr. T. W Wall, who was very (ortunate in haling so small a loss. BOWLING. The following are the details of the remaining three rounds of the pairs competition, which was completed during the Faster holidays. Fifth round. —Hodges and Aiken 20 v. Sixth round.—Madeley and James 15 v McGonagle and Nicholls 13; Quinn aiid Howie '2O v. Currie and Muir 8; Salter and Wicks 18 v. Hodgetts and Adi am 17; Bremer and Aiken 10 v. it ay nor and Matlieson 20. Seventh round. —Quinn and Nicholls 19 v. Bremer and Muir 14; Currie and Aiken 12 v. Hodgitts and James 19; Madeley, and Matheson 20 v. Wicks and Raynor 15; Howie and McGonagle S y. Salter and Adlam 25. The result was:—Skips: W. James (7 wins) 1, J. Nicholls (5 wins) 2. Leads : J. Salter (7 wins) 1, M. Quinn (6 wins) 2. RIFLE CLUB. Fair weather conditions prevailed on Saturday afternoon, when a fair muster of marksmen assembled, at the Waverley range to decide a competition, which was fired from the 600yds and 900yds ranges. Two riflemen, namely, N. Coad and J. Pepper, tied for the premier psi-tion. and in the shoot-off Coad proved the victor. The next shoot w-ii-i take place on Saturday, 21st ins*.., the ranges to he used being the 300yds and 800yds. seven shots to be fired at each range.
