TROTTERS AT AUCTION.

STUD DISPERSAL

MR, J. 1L CORRIGAN’S SALE. Regarded as the most important event of its kind yet held in the Dominion, the dispersal sale of Mr. J. R. Corrigan’s trotting stud and horses in training, conducted at Mr. Corrigan’s Fantham Street" stables this afternoon, attracted an attendance of owners and trainers representative of practically every trotting centre in New Zealand, visitors to the number of about, 200, together with local district breeders, being represented from as far south as Invercargill and as far north as Wellsford, in the Auckland province. In the past decade Mr. Corrigan has been the most successful owner in the Dominion, and the whole of the stud, comprising 51 head, were catalogued. Prior to the sale some 25 youngsters not seen on the racing tracks were paraded on Mr. Corrigan’s private track, and, expertly handled by Mr. A. J. Corrigan gave unmistakable evidence of careful schooling, which was the subject of much appreciative comment from the spectators. The sale was conducted by the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Society, in conjunction with Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., Mr. C. G. Trotter wielding the hammer on behalf of the former and Mr. C. E. Robertson being present on behalf of the latter firm. Bidding was slow during the early stages, when a number of untried three-vear-olds were paraded, several top bids being passed, including one of 109 guineas for a. half-sister to Sister Beatrice.
