SECOND DAY’S PROGRAMME. ANOTHER GOOD ATTENDANCE. PLAINS STAKES TO TATPAUE. The second day’s programme opened in fine but dull weather before another good attendance. As the result of last night’s rain the sting was taken out of the track, which showed even better condition than on the first, day. The withdrawal of Single Mint left 14 candidates for the Trial Handicap, Nelson Dillon being given most support. with a margin of £7O from Beverley Audubon. Loyalty and Electric Gold broke up at the start, and tailed the field into the straight. Lord Lou was the first leader from Beverley Audubon, but the latter soon moved iip and led past the stand well clear of Lady Jewel, Musical, Lord Lou (breaking), Nelson Dillon, Don Wildman. Lady Ebony, Trustworthy, and Dealer. The leader broke when leaving the straight, but kept the van, and' at the half-mile was just in front of Nelson Dillon, the pair being well ahead of Musical, Lady Ebony, and Trustworthy, the last-named moviffg up, followed by Lady Jewel, Lord Lou and Great- Ballin. Across the top the two leaders were running away from the remainder, but Beverley Audubon tired at the straight entrance, and Nelson Dillon raced on to win pulling up by three lengths' from Beverley Audubon, also stopping, hut 10 lengths clear of Trustworthy, which" came in a head in front of Great Ballin. All got away well, the early pilot being Nelson Request, making the pace for Tni Bells, Colonel Thorpe and Rebecca. Call Boy was moving well, and soon lessened his handicap, the leading order past the stand being Tni Bells, Colonel Thorpe, Call Boy, Rebecca and' Lady Ena. Going ino the back Call Bov got in front of Tni Bells and held a slight' advantage across the ton. hut changes in the remainder found Real Todd Iving second, with Tni Bells, Lady Ena, and 1 Rebecca bunched together. The same pair led into the straight, with Rebecca and Tui Bells racinn next, and in the final dash Real Todd showed the best pace to beat the favourite, Call Bov. by a. length and a half, with Rebecca half a. length back third, only a neck in front of Tui Bells. The full sixteen acceptors appeared for the day’s big prize, Greatt Peter, the Cup favourite on Saturday, again failing to justify principal support by a big margin, while Go'd Jacket’s shock to the Cup investors was reepated, though not so emphatically, by the little fancied Taipare. Ceding (such a big handicap, Gold Jacket also was given only moderate support. Royal Serene and Tui Wildwood on the limit, and Gold Dial on 36yds were slow away, an dthe loading order out of the straight was High Sea, Peter Grattan, Pageant, Taipare, Tamerlane, Ricairdo, Vesuvius and Lady Joan. Along the back Royal Serene- and Tui Wildwood tailed the field ,tho first-named pulling up before the mile was completed. When that distance had been covered High Sea and Peter Grattan were still making the pace, while Taipare had taken third berth, with Pageant next. The favourite then occupied tenth berth, while Gold Jacket waw in rear of tsie bunch. Gradually improving position. the Cup winner was going up rapidly at the half-mile, and coming to the home turn Taipare _and Tamerlane wpre on terms iust in front of Shadowland and Gold Jacket. Another complete field of fifteen lined up for the saddle event, Betty was a good third choice, but Andover was almost .completely overlooked. Alatenga and Beverley Audubon were slow ir starting, while Queen Betty, setting out to lead the field, ran right off the course. Past- the stand Blue Pedro was showing the way for Aluriel Thorpe, Electric Gold, Indicator, Profiteer, Ce Advanceur, a,nd Beatty. Breaking by the leader resulted in loss of position and Indicator moved up to lead at the half mile by 'three lengths from Electric Gold, Blue Pedro, Aluriel Thorpe, (Silver Link, Profiteer, Lady Cavon, Ge Advanceur and Queen Betty with Andover coming up from the rear. Across the top Indicator broke and interfered with Electric: Gold, both going back. Beatty led into the straight from Blue Pedro, Andover, Silver Link, Indicator and Queen Betty, and in the run home Beatty wont on to win by 'three lengths from Andover with Blue Pedro a length away. Lady Brent was a good fourth followed by" Queen Betty and Alatenga with the "others wc-ll back. Time, 2.55.

Nelson Dillon and Trustworthy declined the Kapuni Handicap and candidates numbered seven among whom Hat Huon proved the first favourite of the day to justify public choice. Sylvie Logan was left and Beil Dial broke up soon after starting. AVhen the field settled down Alona Logan had charge from Sailor Boy, but entering the back stretch the latter took the lead from Hill Top, Our Nancy, Hal Huon, Warplane, Alona. Logan, Wriglev, Heroic, and Signor. Further changes found Hal Huon leading across the top from Our Nancy, Sailor Boy, Warplane, and Hill Top. ’ First to turn for home, Hal Huon raced on to win easily by two lengths from Our Nancy with Sailor Boy four lengths back and half a length clear of AVarplane, followed If' Queen Elizabeth and Signor.
