REVISION OF ROLLS

The first task to be undertaken, the revision of the rolls —rendered necessary by the alterations in the electoral boundaries last year—will commence next week, and in the meantime regulations are being: drafted in connection with the conduct of the new postal voting system. Heavy work is ahead of the Department' concerned. . . After the Representation Commission alters the boundaries of tlia electoral districts throughout the Dominion it is necessary to have new rolls formed: for the new" districts. The stage for tihe preparation of these rolls has now bpen reached, and registrars of electors have received instructions to commence the work as from April 10.. The period 1 for forming the new rolls is prescribed by tin? Governor-General, and will extend on tins occasion from April 10 until May 31. When the work has been completed. the Minister in charge of the Department is advised to that effect, and the formation is formally announced in the Gazette. After the gazetting of that notice the newly-formed electoral rolls become the rolls for the new electoral districts. In about June or July the Electoral Department will undertake the printing of these rolls, which will be distributed for public information. NO APPLICATION NECESSARY. Some of tihe electoral districts' were considerably altered as the result of the Commission’s recommendations, and it will now be the duty of thp registrars in such oases to notify the electors that the districts in which they were residing at the time of tihe last general .vjlcctk»r form part of the districts! recently constituted. The registrar who receives an addition to his electorate will notify the electors that tiheir names have been placed on the roll of the new district. An example is explanatory. The names will then be submitted to the registrar of electors for Wellington Fast roll.
