RUGBY REFEREES

CONFERENCE AT NELSON.

The annual conference of the New Zealand Rugby Referees ’ Association is being held in Nelson during the whole of the Easter holidays. Mr Dan McKenzie, in the icourse of his presidential address, said that there was no business of startling importance to bu brought before the conference and the rules were carefully considered as a result several recommendations will be made to the union.

Oil 'Saturday the delegates were accorded a reception by the Mayor. The annual report stated that the executive felt that all eligible and capable referees should be given equal opportunity of controlling big fixtures. This could only bo done by the appoint, jnent of a board of New Zealand .Rugby Unions and not by appointments made from lists forwarded by different, Rugby Unions and the Referees’ Associations. The next conference will be held at Palmerston North.

A motion to remove headquarters from Wellington, and making it moveable, was lost by two votes. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr D. McKenzie; executive, Messrs 'T. A. Fletcher, .T. H. Frances. L. 'Sievers, G. Bradley, A M. Sims and H. O. McKenzie. The position of honorary secret aw and treasurer was left to. be filled later. Mr iSievers, who has occupied the position for the past To years, refused nomination. He was accorded a hearty vote of thanks tor his services -to the association.
