WELLINGTON, April 4. Private aviation in the Dominion, is likely to develop rapidly as a result of the Government’s acceptance of the principle of, recognising private clubs and giving them a substantial start with the loan of planes. In issuing the conditions for the recognition of aero clubs, the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. J. Rolleston, informed your correspondent that Cabinet had approved forthwith of eight' De Haviland (Moth) aeroplanes, four to be used at Wigram Aerodrome, Christchurch, while two each will be allocated to tiie proposed aero clubs of Auckland and Christchurch, where the Defence Departments aerodromes will be available free of charge to approved clubs. An extension of private Hying is contemplated by the conditions, whidb provide that to any approved club the Defence Department will issue on loan 2D and 60 Moth aeroplanes complete with engines. Clubs, to secure recognition, will have a roll of at least thirty members who are prepared to qualify as pilots, make proper provision for the maintenance and repair of ’.planes and to arrange for the services of an instructor. A grant qf £25 will be made in respect of each member of a club, who qualifies as a pilot, subject to a total annual limit of £SOO to any club.
