WAR IN CHINA
DRIVE ON PEKING.
STARTED BY NATIONALISTS. A COUNTER. OFFENSIVE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT SHANGHAI, April 3. It is reported that the Nationalists commenced a drive on Peking on April 1 with a. general attack on three fronts. The Northerners immediately took up the long-heralded offensive in retaliation, and are reported to have made small initial gains. The Northerners are plentifully supp'iecl with munitions and are confident of ultimate success, while the Southerners are .short of funds and .supplies, but are equally certain of the capture of Peking if the supplies laist three months. —Australian Press AssociationUnited Service.
