PUBLIC NOTICES. TANGARAKAU COAL. AN EXPLANATION. 'Yy'ITH roforon cp to the prospectus of the Tangarakau Coal Mining Company Limited, which is now being circulated, and whose property is situated some nine miles from Ohura in the Haeo Valley, some four miles beyond the far end of the Gorge, I desire to point out that this Company has no connection whatever with the mining area and rights actually situated. in the Tangarakau Gorge, about one mile from the Stratford end, which is at present being thoroughly prospected and tested prior to the formation of a Taranaki Company to 'work it commercially. Prospecting mining work in this area in the Tangarakau Gorge has been proceeding for two years, and the coal measures have now been thoroughly openod up, about fifteen chains of tunnel having been driven into the hillside through the solid coal with such satisfactory results, both as to quantity and quality (this prospecting work having produced 1400 tons of coal which has been sold to the Public Works department), as to justify the members of the* prospecting syndicate in. putting the proposition before the public in the shape of a tested mine already opened up with sufficient working places established, and plant and buildings provided, to ensure a large daily output of coal from the very first day after flotation. The coal from this mine will be distributed throughout Taranaki from the PRESENT RAILHEAD at TANGARAKAU, at a considerable saving in freight, as soon as the tramline from the mine to the Flat is completed. This work should not take more than four months after commencement. The Prospectus of the Taranaki Company to work the Tangarakau Gorge coal measures will be placed before the public in the near future. (Signed) WILLIAM SHANKS, For the Tangarakau Coal Syndicate.
