LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The winners of the cake competition at Okaiawa was Mrs. H. Barr, with 1005, the correct number being 1004. The popularity of the cheap Easter excursion fares now ill. force on. the railways, was emphasised this morning at the Hawera station. In addition to the already large train, which .arrived from New two more arriages had to be put on to cope with the large number of passengers leaving this district on holiday bent. The Hon. W. D. Stewart, Minister of Finance, stated at Wellington yesterday that the issue of £400,000 rural advances bonds had' been subscribed. The right to accept amounts in excess of that stated in the prospectus was, however, being exercised. The quarterly bulletin of __ the S.T.A.A. has just been issued and together with a neatly bound copy of the new motor regulations, is being supplied gratis to all members of the Association. Both publications arc. most comprehensive and the foresight of the executive of the S.T.A.A. will be coinmended by the motoring public generally.
