The “Bed Bose” reached Newcastle racecourse in a pouring rain storm, a gusty wind -making the landing difficult.' Only a few minutes ’ supply of petrol was left, so Captain Lancaster decided to -risk alighting on the course, which appeared to be under water. The machine landed-, but was caught by a gust -of wind and turned towards a fence. Mrs Miller averted the accident by climbing out of the cockpit, running alongside the machine and throwing her weight- against the wing. The ’plane was thus swung round parallel with the fenee, which was missed by inches. Mrs Miller is an ex-pupil of the Craighead School, Tima-ru.
