STOCK MARKETS.

EXCELLENT TONE ALL ROUND.

STORE CATTLE SPECIALLY GOOD

Business in stock i-s reported to be exceptionally good, especially in some lines and the general indications are that this will continue, for the demand is strong and sound and the presence 01 outside buyers in the district shows that there is a shortage in some other provinces. There are Hawke’s 1 Bay buyers scouring the country and picking up almost all they can secure of store cattle. Their pastures are still vqj-y strong and forward, the rain having been copious and continued and their need for extra, stock is very pronounced.

‘Wit'll this condition ruling prices are naturally good and holders of stock of that description arc in a happy position. Largo lines are reported by stock firms as being sold from th'c paddoiek. There' is a m'arked rising tendency. The usual “call” for weaner heifers and dairy cows is beginning and already fair business has been done. But s'o far the Waikato has not. made the move , which was so pronounced last season, a position due no dbubt to the excessively dry spell experienced 'two months' ago and continued much longer than down here. (But the Waikato is suck a large area that they are still certain to need a large number. Auckland late reports state that ox beef is very firm and Addington notes that, there lias been a sharp .rise of from £1 to £2 per head, duo probably to the Easter trade.

There, is not a great deal doing in •sheep; sheep being unchanged and lambs about up to previous figures. But, although Ideally pigs show little movement and only a slack demand, Auckland reports keen competition at good figures, with good prospects alidad. There is a healthy tone generally indicating optimism on the part of buyers. 'This is stressed by the fate't that in. this, district there is evidence of a strong demand for farms and that a fair number of sales with good cash deposts h'ave been made. The position with wool so high and dairy produce at a good figure and firm,- gives ground for confidence in the coming season.
