March 3(1. “It would be ideal for the Empire to have among it various states and between the Dominions and the Motherland a system of free trade,'’• declared Sir Robert Horne to-day. “Empire Lee trade would alloAv: of a complete uninterrupted flow of commerce between the Dominions' as does the system interstate trading in U.S.A., which gains largely thereby, keeping vast markets to itself, but free trade within the Empire represents the greatest worlds trade.
He declared that the Empire free trade ideal was unlikely in this generation, as the various Dominions had their individaul interests to consider and through the tariff to .raise the revenue. Accordingly the Dominions Avould consider these particular interests. He declared. that certain industrios required protection in one JDorninion and there Avere others Avhich may need it in another. Consequently tliej' roust, for the present, Avork along lines less visionary and more 1 practical; by following the preference method Avithin the Ebipire, by more firmly establishing trade contact, each unit with the other. —AdP.A. and “Sun.”
