EARL CAVE.

BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT LONDON, March 29. Received 12.50 p.m. to-day. Obituary: Earl Cave. [Earl Cave, Ist Viscount (1856), British lawyer and politician. Bom in London, February 23, 1856, and educated at Merchant Ta.vlors’ School and St. John’s College, Oxford, he became a barrister in 1880. For a time Earl Cave practised successfully at the Chancery bar, winning » reputation as a, thoroughly sound lawyer, and in 1906 entered Parliament as M.P. for the Kingston division of Surrey. He. was solicitor-general, 1915, and was knighted. In 1916 he was appointed Home Seoreary, a post he retained until 1918. when he was made a lord of appeal and was created a viscount. He became Lord Chancellor in 1922, an office which he held until a few days ago. He was recently created an earl.]
