CANADA’S DISCLAIMER.
• PROPOSED EGYPTIAN TREATY. EMBARRASSING TO BRITAIN. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCiA TiO.i —(JOFYIUCJaT. LONDON, March. 28. it is -stated time tanaua’s premature {ksc.os..j'j of her dissociation from, tne proposeu Egyptian ,Treaty is .somewhat embarrassing to Britain, not because lintam denies (Canada’s right to concur in thus or any treaty, hut because the treaty i a still unratnied and may never be ratified. Canada’s publication of the disclaimer is noi& only unnecessary, but wilt possibly strengthen the Egyptian refusal to .ratify the treaty, in the hope of detaching other Dominions. It is unlikely Egypt will succeed: in detaching Australia or New Zealand, whose interests, naturally coincide with those of Britain in the maintenance of the Suez Canal route. - , The authorities point out that Canada, South“Ari'ica and thi3 Free State are commercially independent of the Suez Canal, which is the main artery to India and Australia.. It is regrettable, .therefore, that Canada’s disclosures wiLl probably be detrimental to Australia, and India.
