CRICKET.

SCHOOLS COMPETITION. FURTHER RESULTS. Interesting cricket was seen in the various matches played last week by teams from the local schools. There was some good batting and much exce.lent bowling and fielding. Hawera A in making 73 swamped Convent, who could total only eight runs. For the winners, Chadwick (16) and Claringbold (13, retired,) batted best, while Ewington with five wickets for 4 and Chadwiclc three for 0 were much too good for Convent. Hawera B, playing Normanby, won by 137 (for four wickets) to 38. For the motors Surgenor retired after making 53, and Thrush and Stewart 36 each. Thrush, Surgenor, Woollett, and Stuart were the best bowlers.

Hawera R, playing the C team, scored 69 for five wickets (Badeock and Hunter 10 each, Harvey not out 17). Hawera O scored only 14 runs, Auckland, Collins, and Harvey accounting for most of the wickets very cheaply, while Whitehead, Olaringbolcl, and Blackwell bowled best for the O, team. The matches have ci*eatecl much interest and enthusiasm, and will do much to foster the game in the schools. WEDNESDAY COMPETITION.
