Sir Gerald Strickland’s allegation that the Opposition Senators were .supporting cab-drivers was indignantly . e >udi a ted and a w ithdrawal demanded.. Sir Gerald Strickland refused. Thereupon the Senate adjourned: till April 11 as a protest, without passing the Appropriation Bill. The prospect of being without money for eleven days led to such hostility towards the responsible senators that the yrj ice are guarding them. The situation is tense. Sir Gera d Strickland is considering petitioning the King to amend the constitution, reserving financial control to the Assembly.
