FLOWER SHOW AND FAIR.
DISPLAY AT MA'TAPU HALL A striking success rewarded the com. mittee running the second flower show and fair held in the Matapu Hall yesterday, when no less than 505 entries were rejceived—an advance of forty on the previous year—and large crowds of interested spectators thronged the building during the afternoon and evening, enjoying the attractive display made. The various sections drew hearty expressions of approval. All through, in .flowers in vegetables, in home industries and in school work, the exhibits were very good, while in each there were some that stood out for special mention. The potatoes, though not numerous, were of fine quality and a credit to the growers. The designs were very artistically made, and brought credit on the makers. There was also a good standard in the school work—writing, mapping, and cnayon, needle and fancy work. IN THE EVENING
There was n ‘'.full house” in, the Fall in tJio evening and keen interest was taken throughout the proceedings. After the exhibits' generally had been removed, the balance, including all the vegetables, were submitted to auction by Mr P. Merchant, of Eltham, and a satisfactory result secured. The hall was thou cleared for dancing and all present spent an enjoyable time. The show was voted by everyone ns quite the best held in Matapu, and would actually have done credit to a much .larger centre. The hope has been expressed that it will continue to grow and that the big effort—made, it may be added, on behalf of the hall extension fund, a much needed convenience to a growing district —would ultimately succeed in its objective.
