RUGBY UNION’S STRONG POSITION.

WELLINGTON, March 22. - As a rei.sult of fine week-ends anti largo attendance at club matches foi the last two winters, the local Rug Ip Union finds itself in a strong financial position. Last season it handled ovei £12,000 and its profit was £2256, tin largest ever recorded. The fund foi rebuilding the grandstand has non reached £GOOO. DUNEDIN OTTY COUNCIL. DUNEDIN, March 22. The Dunedin City Council had before it last night a recommendation that in view of the general labourers’ recent award calling for an increase which involves' £SOOO and an-increase in the general. rate, the finances should be adjusted on the basis of employing fewer hands and where reasonable, tenders could he invited for works. It was variously stated that from 25 to 50 men would he affected. After some discussion the report was adopted. A MAN MISSING.. DUNEDIN, March 22. Fears are entertained for the. safety of a. postal clerk named William John Pvc a widower, aged 35, who has hem) missing wince Friday. His. wife died eight months ago. The missing man was reported to have been morose for for some time.
