LEGION OF FRONTIERSMEN

FAREWELL TO CAPTAIN YICKRIDGE. A well-attended meeting of M Squadron, Legion of Frontier-men, was Jieid last evening in the Foresters’ Hall to bid farewell to Captain C. N. Vickridge, O.C. of tiro squadron, who is leaving on a six months’ trip to the Old Country. ' Captain Yickridge has taken a keen interest in matters affecting the legion in New Zealand' for the past 20 years, and is one of the oldest legion‘aries in the Taranaki .district. Prior to the war lie 1 was closely associated with the movement in Poverty Bay, particularly the Gisborne squadron, which was the original one in New Zealand and the founders of the legion in the Dominion. Captain Yickridge has been in command of M Squadron, Hawera, since its inception four years ago. While in England he will act as representative of the New Zealand Legion of Frontiersmen at the grand conference to he held next June, and he will also attend to all matters pertaining to legion affairs in the Dominion. On behalf of the legionaries in New Zealand, Captain Vickridge will present a shield made of New Zealand woods, and carved by Mr. John Therkleson, of Wanganui, to the legion in England for competition in rifle shooting. Before the social evening commenced a short committee meeting of the Olrawe troops was held to appointtemporary officers to command during the absence of Captain Vickridge. Owing to the resignation of Lieut. Henry from Die position of 0.C., O.M.S. A. C. Piper was elected by ballot to fill the position. Lieut. S. R. Yeitch was appointed second in command of M Squadron during the absence of Captain Vickridge. Four new members were elected to the Ohawe troop. The social function, which was kept up until the early hours of the morning. consisted of a most entertaining programme of toasts, songs, and stories. The following was the toast

Piper, Ramsay, E. H. Piper, J. W. Bolton, Barleyman, G. Hardenburg, Captain Vickridge.
