ALLEGED MURDER
THE NEW LYNN CASE. • NORGKOYE COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. [UV TKLKGRAFE—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, March 21. Tiie preliminary trial took place today of Allan George Norgrove, aged 27, who is charged with the murder of his sister-in-law, Ernestine Mary Norgrove, at New Lynn on March 7. The magisterial trial and the inquest proceedings are being taken simultaneously. Evidence was given by doctors ns to the terrible injuries received by deceased. The daughter, Mavis Martha Firth (she has been married since the tragedy) gave evidence at length She said the accused had been in the habit of coming to the house every week-end and sometimes during the week. Norgrove had objected to Firth, and had told him to keep away from the house. A quarrel had occurred on February 26 between witness; her mother, and accused over the question whether witness would continue to live at home after her marriage, and accused had threatened Mrs. Norgrove with a knife. A further quarrel occurred on the Wednesday following, when accused said to deceased: “You’ll never see them married.” Several more witnesses gave evidence, and the Crown case concluded at 3.45 p.m. After the usual learning had been given, accused stated he had nothing to say, and was committed for trial. The coroner, Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., brought in the following verdict: That deceased died at her home at New Lynn on March 7, and that the cause of her death was fracture of the skull and laceration of the brain following injuries inflicted by the accused.
