Miss D. Corrigan leaves NeAV Zealand on April 21 on a. visit to England, the Continent and America. Mr Claude Browning, at present head teacher at Waver ley, has been appointed head teacher at Waitara School.

The Rev. F. E. Harry, who ha® -been attending the Baptist conference at New Plymouth, -arrived in Hawera -by the mail train and- will spend a shortvacation in the -district.

A Wellington message .states that respecting the Auckland report that Air J. S. Dickson had been appointed to the Cabinet, the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, state-s that no Cabinet appointment has been made.

Friends of Mr. Peter Cameron, of Auroa, will regret to learn that lie is very seriously ill ns the result of an internal complaint, and his condition is causing his friends great anxiety. The death has- occurred at Dunedin of Air. Colin Alacandrew. He was the eldest son of Air. James Alacandrew, one of the Superintendents of Otago. Air. Colin AlcAndrew was born in London in 1849, and came with his parents to -Otago by the schooler Titan in 1851.

A large and representative gathering of footballers- -and citizens assembled in the Clifton Hall, W-aitara, last evening to bid farewell to Air Pat Ward. Air J. AlcLeod, chairman of the meeting, spoke in eulogistic -terms of -the guest, and -on behalf -of his club mates- and the people of Woitara, presented him with a travelling bag and rug. Air Ward leaves ,to join -the team next Saturday. It is announced that Af a-jor-General Sir Brudenell White will assume, a.s from July 1, the joint office of chairman of the local board of directors and Superintendent for Australia of the New Zealand Loan a>nd Alerca-ntile Agency Co., succeeding as chairman Mr J. Newman Barker, who h-as expressed his desire- to relinquish that post, but remains upon the board as deputychairman. Air Walter F. Lawry, chief inspector for Australia, after a service with the company of 58 years, will retire on June 30- Air Herbert J. Green will succeed him. Air Rupert Green, wool adviser to the company in Australia. assumes ;a.ddit.ilon-a.l duties in respect of the- wool and mercantile business. —Press Assn.

A very old and much respected pioneer settler of Normanby passed to her rest on Saturday at Auckland in the person of Airs. John Miller, at the age of 84 years. Born at Coldingham. Scotland, she came to- New Zealand by the first direct liner, the S.S. and A. Doric, landing here on iSept-ember 23, 1883. With her husband she settled in Normanby in 1883, and after a year or two on the Alountain Road they took up land at the Afakino, where Air. Aliller carried on sheep farming for many years. Subsequently they retired. and Mrs. Aliller had Jived with her son in Auckland for a number of yeans. She leaves one daughter. Airs. E. C. Delamore, and one son. Air. H. Aliller. The funeral took place from the Presbyterian ” Church, Normanby, yesterday and was largely attended by old friends of the family.
