COST TO THE GOVERNMENT. EMPIRE SETTLEMENT SCHEME. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 12.10 p.m. to-day. LONDON, March 19. In the House of Commons the lit. Hon. L. C. M. S. Amery, in answer to a question, said that families assisted to migrate under 'the Empire Settlement Act last year totalled 8029, comprising 31,690 persons. The total individual migrants assisted was 03,027. The total expenditure on overseas settlement last year #ns £1,337',097, of which £269,000 was recoverable. The cost of after care settlement was spread over a period of years. In addition to the Empire Settlement Act expenditure, the Ministry of Labour spent £37,000 in testing and training prospective migrants.
