The cricket match between Australia, and Taranaki was resumed ,at 11.30 a.m. in perfect weather conditions. Pomsford and Richardson continued the innings. Richardson took first strike to Petty, and off the second ball a sensation was. caused, as the batsman lashed out wide on the off, and Kingston took a great catch. 364 4—13. Jackson came ( next, and opened with a quiet .single to leg. Ponsford cleverly took a yorker off liis leg stump and got it away for a couple. Giblin howled at the other end, and singles brought on 370. Both, batsmen showed a marked cleverness, in placing singles. Ponsford was Inv-ten by a- good length hall from Giblin, and then sweetly turned the next to leg for a single. He jumped out at the last hall of the over and,, mishitting, gave a possible chance in the slips, but the ball fell safe. The Inst ball of Petty’s next over Jackson failed completely to play, and saw his stumps scattered. 376 —5—6. The diminutive Schneider joined Woodfuil and played out the over. The scoring slowed down, both howlers being much more accurate in length. Then Woodfuil got the first four of the day with a nice half-pulled shot to the boundary, and hard drove Petty also to the oft' for a couple. The next was cleverly chopped through the slips, a very nice and effective stroke. Then he drove Giblin hard to mid-off, and Grayson took a nice catch. 387 —7 —9.

Grimmett followed and opened with n somewhat fluky single to leg. The bowling continued good and scoring was much slower. Grimmett then drove Giblin hard to the off boundary and 390 was signalled. Next Grimmett had a life, getting off hi 3 crease to .a hall tv» leg, but Kingston missed the opportunity and the next over brought on 4( 0 with a very nice square cut, for two One of his prettiest strokes was a very fine' glide to leg just turning the ball sufficiently to miss the wicket. A loose over from Petty ivas somewhat severe ly handled, the short ones being slammed hard and a double change was made, A. AI. Wilson taking Gi'blin’s place. The change was -effective because Grimmett ran out to the first bah and was clean howled. 417S —13. Alorton took his .place and at once had a life, popping one up in the slips that B. Wilson just failed to reach Schneider slammed the slow bowler hard, hut good fielding saved the boundary. Then the newcomer was almost out through lifting one to the long off, which Lay almost reached, having a long way to come. He lasted only a few balls for -A. Wilson completely beat him and shattered the stumps. 427 —9—7.
