There have been good honey crops in Poverty Bay this season, according to a statement made recently by Mr E. H. Barry, apiary instructor. The weather early in the season suited the growth of clovers, and the dry spell did not interfere with the honey-making process, which was now practically completed for the season and the extraction process started. A good sample of honey had been produced, and the quantities had been appreciably larger than those of last season. There lias also been good production in Hawke’s Bay and the Wairarapa. The longest sentence on record —in the Finance Act, 1927, to which Mr. Raeburn, K.C., drew attention in an English Appeal Court recently—is _SG lines long, contains more than 500 words, and is broken up into four subsections. The difference ’tavixt the pipe and the cigarette is as well marked as that between a sandwich and a grilled steak. Hence, while the cigarette has numberless votaries, the pipe, because it is so satisfying, has many more. Seasoned smokers say there is nothing to equal a pipe for solid comfort and enjoyment. But the tobacco must he good, and not loaded with nicotine as "the imported brands usually are. Our own New Zealand-grown tobaccos are the purest, and being comparatively free from nicotine they are greatly ; appreciated by smokers, who find they •an smoke them for hours at a time without burning their tongues or experiencing other unpleasant consequences. Tt is interesting to note that these tobaccos are all toasted in the n recess of manufacture, and to tho toasting must- be attributed the wonderful flavour and delightful -aroma that ohiaractei'ises them. The principnl brands, are “Hiverhead Gold,” mild: “Navy Cut (Bulldog), medium; and “Cut‘Plug No. 10” (Bulkhead), full strength. All toasted and every tobacconist stocks them. *
