REGISTERED LETTER DETAINED. [BY TRLKGRAPH—PItF.SS ASSOCIATION.] AVELLINGTON, March 14. A traveller, whose name was suppressed, was charged before Mr. Salmon, S.M., to-day with wilfully detaining a registered’letter which ought to lia*e been delivered to his wife at New Brighton. It was stated in evidence that he said he hnd the right to take delivery of his wife’s correspondence. Subsequently the letter was returned to the Chief Postmaster.
Detective Jarrold gave evidence that accused told him he left his wife in December, 1926, owing to domestic troubles, and had asked the New Brighton postmaster to send all correspondence to him. ■ He was going to hand the letter over to his wife personally He was committed for trial at the Supreme Court. Bail in £SO was allowed. CHARGE AGAINST TWO CONSTABLES. HAMILTON, March 14. Charged with being on licensed premises after hours, two members of the Hamilton police force, Constables Arnold Sydney Wade and Arthur Cyril Shilton, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court to-day.
Mr. Johnson, for the defendants, applied for an adjournment till March 28, as the chief witness for the defence, Mr. E. H. Northcroft, a solicitor, of Auckland, would be unable to attend before that time owing to pressure of business. The adjournment was granted.
