CANADIANS IN ACTION. COMMANDER.’® REPLY TO ALLEGATIONS -tv OARI.F, puf.hr association— copyright. OTTAWA, March 10. “We were through Mons and on the other side before the Armistice was signed, and yet I’m accused of sacrificing the lives of Canadians to take the city. Nothing could be more false," declared Sir Arthur Currie on arriving at Cobourg, Ontaria, to- attend an examination in connection with the 50,000 dollars suit for alleged libel he has launched against F. W. Wilson, publisher of the Port Hope Guide, and W. T. R. Preston, author of an article ' published in June, 1927, alleging there had been useless- sacrifice of human life in order that the Canadian headquarters staff might have the honour of saying “Canadians fired the last shot in the war and captured the last German entrenchments.” “Not only was there no useless sacrifice, but all the Canadians did was to straighten out the line and obtain a good place to kick-off from before the Armistice became effective,” declared Sir Arthur, who added that he had difficulty in holding the troops back.
