SOUTH TARANAKI TOURNEY. ADDITIONAL SCORES, Weather conditions were much more kindly to-day when play was resumed in the South Taranaki tourney at Hawera and Park lawns. Much good play has been seen by the largp number ot spectators who have followed the fortunes of the large company of players. Some comment was made on the rule which permits a strong player to an nex practically all the play and to “peel” his partner through hoop after hoop. It seems to absolutely detract from the interest taken by the weakei uartner. In one match this was very marked, and it was also noticed that when this player, a lady, did get a spell she did remarkably .well- The general opinion is that the sooner an amendment is made the better for the game in general. Mrs Rhode-'Williams, a leading Wellington player, who has mad© a close study of the -laws of the game and of the “tactics” and strokes necessary for success, has been _ very helpful in discussing these questions with young players. She has also given them many useful demonstrations. The work of the organisation and arrangement has gone ahead well and has expedited matters very materially. 'there was a quie.t time about lunch, when only half the lawns wepe occupied, mainly with the championship singles matches.
Visitors were present from many parts during the day and the lawns in the afternoon were fairly well thronged. Further results are:— SOUTH TARANAKI CHAMPION SINGLES.
