OHAWE.
(From a Correspondent.) THE SEASIDE SETTLEMENT. The country in the Qhawe district is ab jrresent bearing a green appearance, thanks to the recent very welcome rains. Two of the local fishing boats were out on Monday last, the results not being very satisfactory. The motor launch Raumiro is again in a seaworthy state and waiting for favourable weather to take up her former duties. At the present time there is an extreme shortage of schnapper in the bay. The. contractors for the supply of metal from the l>eaeh are at present kept busy, the quality of the metal obtainable being excellent. The settlers in the district, as_ well as visitors, are not taking too kindly to the facilities in connection with the post and telephone as at present carried out. The present arrangements, it is contended, leave plenty of room for improvement, especially as regards the telephone. A large number of visitors to the beach for bathing purposes continue to take advantage of the warm weather. In the event of an accident during the daytime there are no facilities for ringing up for medical assistance. This also applies in respect to the fishing boats, tlie owners considering there should he a continuous telephone service _ both from a business and accident point of view. ADDITION A L RESIDENCES. ' Arrangements are well in hand for tlie erection of six more dwellings at Ohawe, with, it is understood, 'more to follow, all for permanent residences. The Beach Improvement Committee are at present taxing a complete rest, after which it is hoped they will take some action to make the surroundings at the beach more encouraging to visitors. We are pleased to find tlie life-sav-ing apparatus again renewed. All that is°required in this respect is to.have it, properly housed, and arrangements made for a. crew to be present on Sundays and holidays. Among the visitors to thee, beach during the week were Mr. and Airs C. Savage, of Lake Takapuna, Auckland. They started on their homeward journey to-day, travelling by motor ear. They were the guests of Mr. and' Airs. H. A. Sorenson while at Ohawe. Tlie condition of the Ohawe Road is Ist ill being commented on by the travelling public. _ If only patched in places meantime it would result, in an improvement.
