MATCH AT AUCKLAND. VISITORS iSIX FOR- 418. (BY fELEGBAPH—PBESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, March 9. The Australian cricket team commenced a match against the Auckland representatives at Eden Park to-day and, having first use of the wicket, compiled 418 runs for the loss of six wickets. A feature of the innings was the prolifiie fourth wicket partnership between Richardson and Alexander, which added SO'l runs in 2 hours 10 minutes. Losing- the toss under ideal -weather conditions, it was expected the Auckland bowlers -would he severely .tested. Such proved the case, and nine trund’ers were give a turn at the crease during the day. Woodfull and Fonsford gave the side a good start by making S 6 for the first wicket. Ponsford was dismissed by a (brilliant eat-eh by Bowlcy. He and Woodfull both 'batted well. Richardson and Alexander gave bright exhibitions, the former making a century in -two hours, including 15 fours. Both gave chances in the twenties Jackson gave an impressive display for 46. Schneider and Oxenham stood out of the Australian eleven. G. L. Weir and Bowlcy were the most successful bowlers, each taking two wickets, the former for 53 runs and the latter for 67.'
