BANKRUPT MISSING.
CREDITOR EXPLAINS THE CASE. fBV TRI.FOH ARTT —PRESS ASSOOTAT t IN. I WELLINGTON, March 9. The disappearance of a bankrupt and what was described as her base ingratitude caused some concern this morning to a meeting of cre-ditois adjourned from last October, when Mrs. E. V. Robertson, confectioner, having been adjudged bankrupt, met her creditors. Her debts amounted to £l9l. At to-day’s meeting the Official Assi<2pieo vsnicl nil communion Lions ncldressed to bankrupt had come- hack through the -dead letter office. The police" were looking for her on -a charge of false pretences, but they did not- hold out much hope of finding her in the Dominion, it being thought that she had gone to Australia. If the latter were the case the police would not go to the expense of bringing her back unless the creditors were prepared to foot the bill. Giving a resume of the circumstances surrounding the previous meeting of creditors, one of the creditors present -said they had then taken a very lenient view of the case. Bankrupt had stated that with £3O move credit she could pull through. She had denied having any liabilities except those disclosed, and said she was receiving £3 10s a week as maintenance. She had also agreed to give a bill of sale over the stock. “Everything looked quite good, and tne required goods and credit were supplied, but two days later someone else was in the shop and bankrupt had disappeared. What is more, if was then dis overed that- nine months previously siie had given a bill of sale over Ihr stork. The Official Assignee should v.-iiuC to the police emphasising what a f.HMe fraud it was and asking them to sustain their search.” This the Official Assignee said he would do. The meeting was finally adjourned sine die, the Official Assignee saying that if he knew anything about the whereabouts of bankrupt lie would immediately let- the creditors know and action could he taken.
