ANOTHER DUNEDIN.
SCOTS GREET! SCOT’S. A LETTER FROM FLORIDA. How many people are there who know there is another town in the world named Dunedin ? A letter received by the Mayor (Mr, W. .13. Taverner) dispels any doubt on the point. It conies from the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, Florida, U.S.A., and is worded as follows:
“The Mayor of Dunedin. Mew Zealand: We, together with our estimable city, are perhaps the only communities in the world hearing the ancient name of Edinburgh, Scotland. Dunedin, Florida, is lamous for its healthy climate, and is a noted winter resort. The temperature here averages 7'ldeg. throughout the winter months, and the city, located on the Gull' of Mexico, is considered one of the healthiest in the southern hemisphere. We understand that Dunedin, Mew Zealand, also enjoys a wonderful and equable climate. We are enclosing printed matter descriptive of our city We would like to obtain similar printed matter descriptive of your city, and any additional data you can give us. We wish to publish an article in the newspapers of this country about the two Dunedins, linking them with their namesake Edinburgh. Dunedin, Florida, was settled in 1875 by a group of Scottish who named it after the Scottish name for Edinburgh. We presume, that Dunedin, New Zealand, was named likewise.. With heartiest greetings to our sister city across the seas, the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce.— (Signed Robert G. Nixon, secretary.” . There is a decidely Scottish air about the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce in Florida. Its president’s name is Gordon K. iMacEdward, its first vice-president is C. Y. M'Mullan, and its treasurer is A. 11. Grant, It would not be extraordinary to find such names among the names of the officers of Dunedin’s Chamber of Commerce. It is evident that the American Dunedin’s Chamber of Commerce is a very live body, keen to make known the attractiveness of its city and surroundings.
The Mayor does not intend to lose such a good opportunity of advertising Dunedin abroad, and as soon as possible will mail to Dunedin, Florida, a'U the information he possibly can.
