THEFT OF MONEY ADMITTED. [by telegraph—press association.] WELLINGTON, March 7. By overcharging for cables and putting in slips for cables he never sent, Cecil Edward Fuller, a clerk, aged 29, stole money to the total of £79’ 3s Id from Samuel Brown, Ltd., between September, 1926, and September, 1927. It was stated that the first day he had charge of the books he put through £7 worth of cables that were never sent. Accused pleaded guilty at the Court to-day and was committed for sentence. He said he had married while receiving a salary of £3 per week, while in the firm’s employ. MAORI YOUTH ADMITS FORGERY CHARGE. WAIPUKURAU. March 7. Hastings John Boyce Hampstead, a i Maori youth, aged 17, formerly of Weraroa industrial farm, was committed to the Supreme Court at Napier for sentence, a.fter pleading guilty to forging the name of Geo. Jamieson, his employer, to a cheque for £25 and uttering the same to Mrs. Carpenter for payment of goods valued at £2 10s 6d, receiving the change, which he expended. He was also charged with theft of £1 from Jamieson. ISOiLAfitfON ORDER DISOBEYED CHRISTCHURCH, March 7. As a, result of disobedience of an isolation order in a case of scarlet fever, Ethel Goodrich, a married woman, was charged with a breach of the health regulations and was convicted and ordered to 1 pay costs amounting to £3 10s. The evidence. showed th'At one child had contracted fever and that another was found swimming next day in the school baths, despite orders for isolation. SENSATION ON FERRY STEAMER. AUCKLAND, March 7. Geoffrey Cope, a passenger on tin? Devon port ferry steamer Mnkora, leaned overboard at 9.20 this morning. He appeared to be swimming istronghabout 1-50 yards in thpt wake of the vessel, when he caught a buoy fh upped after him- The steamer backed and be was lifted aboard. He fought the captain, mate and) several passenger,s in an effort to repeat the performance, until his hands were bound with rope. He appeared at the Police Court on a charge of attempted suicide, and was remanded till Thursday. OVERSTAYED THEIR PERMITS. AUCKLAND, March 7. Six Chinese who had overstayed their permits for residence in Now Zealand, appeared befon? the Court and were fined aims of £SO, £2O, and £lO each. GIRL ADMITS THEFT. WELLINGTON, March 7. A woman aaed 25, whose name was suppressed, pleaded guilty at the court to-day to theft of £152 15s 5d from Magnus Motors, and she was committed for sentence. Her statement showed that she stole £2OO from an insurance company five years ago, lost her billet, and had been stealing since in order to pay back th© amount. .
