BOY’S DEATH FROM EFFECTS OF SCALDS. LBY TKLKGRaPH— PRESS ABSO.HAT.ON i WELLINGTON, Alarch 0. At the inquest* on Halcombe Aloss Cuff, four -years of age, Avho died in the Wellington Hospital, Dr. Harding stated that deceased ivas in the infantile paralysis Avard. When he saw the boy both his feet were scalded to the level of the ankles. In witness ’ opinion the cause of death was toxaemia from the absorption of scalded surfaces.
Dorothy Hardy, a nurse, said that after bathing the boy she gave him a towel and told him to go on drying himself. She then left the ward. She heard a scream and on returning found the child sitting on the edge of the bath, into which hot water was running, with both his feet severely scald, od. She applied oil and summoned a doctor. A verdict in accordance with the medical testimony', was returned, the coroner adding that the occurrence appeared to have boon purely accidental. ROY CYCLIST DIES OF INJURIES. NELSON, March 6. Rex McCormack aged nine,, son of Mr. M, McCormack, of Harper Street, died in the hospital last evening, as a result of injuries received two hours previously- in a> collision with a motor ear while riding a bicycle. A FISHERMAN MISSING. AUCKLAND, March 6 Grave .fears are entertained for the safety- of Charles Hornan, aged 23, a single man, of Thames, who was last seen over a 'week ago in a 16ft. boat in a. rough sea eight, miles off MercuryBay-. A paddle and the filler handle from the boat have washed ashore, but search parties have so far been fruitless. FOUND DEAD IN HOTEL YARD. HOKITIKA, Mar eh 7. William Creaghan, aged 70, was found' dead 1 in the yard of the Masonic Hotel last night shortly after having tea. Previously- the. deceased had apparently been in his usual health. He came from Westport to attend the Grey jubilee, arriving at Hokitika on Saturday evening. He was a widower.
