WARATAHS DEFEAT VANCOUVER

HOME SIDE OUTCLASSED

ny CABLE— PRESS ASSOCIAtION-^OPYSIGHT VANOOUVER, March 3. Th War at ab s easily defeated, the Vancouver representatives in the last game before sailing in the Aorangi. Showing immense superiority, . they went over in the first two- minutes, Ross converting. Then they were over again 10 minutes later. The Vancouver representatives were almost helpless m the scrum and open play. At halftime the score was 14 to nil. The Vancouver representatives- then improved, but were not good enough, the game ending with the score 17 to nil. The visitors could readily have doubled the score. The fundamental difference between the Waratahs and the All Blacks is that the latter went over when and how they could, while the Waratahs made the game- safe, then paused very deliberately, watched and blocked while the opposition did its best. The playing of Duncan and King behind the scrum and the, flashing back line’s passing movements evoked great applause. Ross ■made the score- sis to nil from a, penalty kick, and a few minutes later Finlay ran over, Ross converting the trv. King made a sensational run through the broken field, dodging and swerving like a swallow m flight. Gordon went over, but was called back for an infringement of the rules. Blair, however, scored immediately afterwards, but the shot at goal missed. Farmer made a splendid shot at goal well out in the field just before halftime.

The Vancouver representatives had a big chance in the second half when the Waratahs eased up, hut _ they could not get going beyond midfield owing to the defensive method® of the visitors and the brilliant full-back play of Ross. Mann scored the Waratahs’ only try in the second half, but Ross again missed by inches from a difficult angle. Th Waratahs’ inside; passing movements wore wonderful. ARMY DEFEATS THE NAVY. LONDON, March 3. The King attended at Twickenham on Saturday and witnessed the interservices Rugby match, in which the Army beat the Navy by 11 points to 5.
