HEENEY-DELANEY BOUT,
THE NEW ZEALANDER’S COMMENTS.
TEX RICKARD’S PLANS UPSET. (BY TELEGBAPEJ—PBESS ASSOCIATION.) GISBORNE, March 5. Interesting comment regarding' the Hqen ey-Dela ney contest was transmitted to Mr. O’Meara during the week-end by a. wireless corresponaent. Heenev interviewed by the “Boston Herald’ ’ "declared that Delaney was not one third o.f the puncher they said he was. “It was a terrible scramble,” he added. “It takes two to make a fight and he held me at every turn. Sharkey is much the better hitter. Delaney must have landed some good ones, but he never hurt me. It was the easiest fight I have ever had in America.” The “Boston Bvning Traveller” said that after 15 rounds of tugging, clincliand pushing, Heeney was awarded the verdict. Heeney won by only the slightest- of margins, but it was enough to remove Delaney as a serious tliyeat for heavyweight honours. As for the courageous New Zealander, he may. upset all calculations and by dint of hard work, and relentless attack, force himself into a title bout with Tunney. Picked to crumble before Sharkey, and Delaney, Tex Rickard’s two leading heavyweight contenders, Heeney has upset all Tex’s plans.
