FINED FOR ASAULTING A CONSTABLE. [by TELEGRAPH— press ASSOCIATION ] AUCKLAND, Feb. 5. At the Police Court, Richard Thomas Jamieson, aged 22, was final £25, or in the alternative ,two months’ imprisonemnt, for assault on Constable Veal, who, while in iplain clothes, interfered with a number of men who were fighting in the street. The accused kicked Veal in the eye and lip. Theconstable chased "tho accused and caught him. MOTORIST’S LICENSE SUSPENDED BLENHEIM, March 5. Albert Edward Barv, aged 21, as the- result of a collision between two motor cars on the Main South Road' just outside Blenheim, was charged to-day with being drunk while m charge l of a motor. He pleaded guilty. His license to drive was suspended for four months, and the suppression of his name was refused. , PENSION B1 T FRAUD. WANGANUI. March 5. John Owen (Growth or pleaded guilty at the court to-day to three charges of obtaining an instalment in an economic pension bv means of a false statement that lie had not been in employment for a month. The police stated that during the period that pensions had been drawn the accused had earned £52 in wages.
Th.e registrar said that the case was brought as a warning to others. >. _ The magistrate said that it was impossible t'O take a light view of the matter. It was a clear case and had been persisted in for over three months.' The accused was sentenced to 14 days imprisonment on each charge, sentence to be concurrent.
