TODAY’S WORK AT TRENTHAM

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

[BY TELEGRAPH—rRESS ASSOCIATION.] TREXTHAM, Feb. 28. .After the gale and heavy rain. during the night, the morning was fine but cold. The executive decided to fire the 500 Taranaki match instead of finishing the Otago match. Shooting commenced at 9 o’clock. The trouble the marksmen had to contend with was the changing light conditions, otherwise they were good. The wind was puffy and sighting varied from three degrees right to two left. No mirage was in evidence. At the representative meeting of the association Colonel T. B. Gresswell (Christchurch) was elected president. vice-Colonel R. Hughes resigned. Club representatives on the executive were: Otago, F. Silvias; Canterbury, Captain Masefield; Wellington, AV. Mcßain; Auckland, A. Patrick; territorial^ representatives, Colonel Hughes (Wellington), Captain Simmonds (Auckland), Surgeon-Captain Ri. Crawford (Otago); AV. Fellingham was elected secretary. The competitors eulogised the efficient services of the statistical staff under Captain 'Guy Felton. In the Taranaki match, which is in progress, possibles were obtained by K. McKenzie (Featherston), Caughlev (Karori), Bramley (Ashburton), Mclvor (Petone), and Bolton (Opaki). Long range matches are causing many changes in the leading fifty, several men having “crashed” badly. The final will not he known till late this afternoon. The time limit of fifteen minutes is being enforced in the long ranges. Bramwell took .six and Caughlev eight.

OTAGO MATCH FINISHED. TRENTHAM, Feb. 28. W. Melver (Petone) is leading for the belt aggregate with 457. H. Feast (Greytown) and J. Carter (Linton) are second, each with 444, C. Nix (Featherston) next witli 442. The Otago Match was won by I?,. Piper (Christchurch) with 91. C. McKeich (Kiwi), a tyro, Melver and K. Lovell (Northbank) were each 91, and the match was won on the count back.
