Mr. Winston .Churchill, Chancellor of the Exchequer, has announced the receipt of a further anonymous gift of £IOOO in five per cent, war stock towards the reduction of the National Debt. The Stockholm correspondent of “The Times” states that owing to a pulp industry deadlock, employers, including the paper -mills, have locked out the employees until the dispute is settled. The Ilford by-election, owing to the death of Sir Frederick Wise, resulted in .Sir George Hamilton (Conservative) being returned with 18,2(59 votes, Comyns Carr (Liberal) 13,621, Degruchy (Labour) 8922.
