EAGLE AND AEROPLANE.

AN AUSTRALIAN BATTLE. BIRD STRUCK AND KILLED. SYDNEY, Ecb. 20. When an aeroplane speeding to pick up an injured man passed over Hay, one of the. principal towns in the Riverina district of New South Wales, this week, it was attacked bv a big eagle. The bird was killed by the. wing skids- and remained fast until dislodged when the plane landed. The plane, in charge of 'Captain Frank Neale, had left Melbourne in response to an urgent call from IJardrv station, near Hay, where Tony Mills, son of the owner, had been injured in a car accident. It was converted into an air ambulance and loft on its 233 miles journey. Near Hay (’apt. Neale was amazed to see a big eagle flying straight at the plane. He altered' his course slightly, but tinbird swerved and, fearing damage to the propeller, Neale swerved again, hitting the eagle with the wing skid. A similar accident happened .in Queensland to Sir Ross and Sir Keith Smith on their flight from England. In their case, however, the eagle hit the propeller, and damaged it. so much that another had to be obtained before the flight could be continued.
