I FALSE STATEMENT MADE OYER ’PHONE. [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH. Feb. 23. That it is an offence to wilfully make a false statement over the telehpone to the detriment of another person, was impressed upon two defendants in the Magistrate’s Court, when Winifred j Philomena Lawrence and Reginald Thomas Oliff were convicted and discharged, O',iff being fined 10s on a ! charge of making a bogus call to Abraham John Hook, a carrier, that he was ’required to go out for a job. Oliff is a rival carrier.
