LEGION OF FRONTIERSMEN.

ANNUAL GENERAL PARADE.

A GROWING UNIT.

The annual general parade of “M" Squadron, Legion of Erontieremen, was liekl at Hawera last evening, when the following members were present-: C'uptain Vickri-dge, Lieut. S. it. Veitch, Sergeant'A. O. Pi-per, Sergeant A. IS. Stevens, .Frontiersmen T. Whitfield, T. Elair, E. F. Nickel, G. Quayle and E. 11. Piper. Apologies for absence were received from Lieut. Henry, Frontiersmen Johns and Mr O. Lennie. Jii his annual report to. the members, Lieut. S. 11. Veitch said that the membership at the beginning of the year was eleven. Ten new members had been enrolled or transferred, from other units, which made the present membership twenty-one, and new; members were being enlisted. . iGontinuiug his address, the speaker said : Social Activities.—The troop has during the year organised three social functions and two- further functions have been held which were arranged by the me-wly formed squadron. Members further have had the privilege of attending social evenings arranged by other squadrons and troops, notably Wanghnui and Taranaki Squadrons and Waverley, Mlthanv and Awakino troo-ps. A certain number of unofficial and semiLegion evenings have also. l been arranged by members. There is very little loiibt that tlie social activities of the troop have been a factor in cementing friendship between legionaries. Business Activities. —Tlie work of the troop during the past year has been mainly in the direction of the formation of troops and of a squadron and this work has more or less precluded members from making any effort to enter into any form of training, members have, however, been encouraged to take some instruction in ambulance work, and miniature rifle shooting. Squadron Formation. —As the direct result of work performed by members, the troop has during the year formed further troops at Etttham and Manaia and has seen the formation of a squadron at Hawera. Finance.—ln the annual report of last year reference was made to the necessity of the troop - building up a small reserve fund. The' accounts of this year show a considerable increase i-n the accumulated funds,‘ there is however need for a further increase in this fund. During the year every effort has been made to keep expenditure as low as possible. The troop is indebted to Captain Vickridge for a framed- picture.

In conclusion the speaker thanked members for the loyal and enthusiastic support which has been given. There is not the slightest doubt that the work which has been performed has been possible only because of this co-oper-ation qf members. Lieut. Henry was appointed for a further term as of.O.0 f .O. of the troop. Following on the resignation of Lieut. S. R. Veitch as troop secretary, Frontiersmen R. Johns w;as elected to fill the vacancy. The appointment of probationarymembers E. F. Nieol and Geo, Quayle was 'confirmed. Two lie tv members, Messrs G. Hardenberg and C. Lennie were admitted to the troop as probationers. It was decided that the squadron call a parade for Auzac Day for the purpose of taking part in the Anzac Day celebrations, and that a wreath >a procured and placed on the mem.orial. A hearty vote of thanks was accord'd Lieut. Veitch for his untiring efforts on behalf of the legion and his excellent services -while secretary of the Hawera troop. After the meeting closed those present were entertained at supper by Mesdames Veitch and Henry, when a dainty repast was provided.
